Twenty new SA Housing Authority apartments for senior social housing tenants have opened in Prospect.
The spacious three-storey $6.8M building is home to several people assisted through the Aged Homeless Assistance Program, which supports people who have experienced homelessness.
Located on Churchill Rd, near public transport and shopping centres, the apartments are designed for tenants aged 55 and older, allowing them to age in place, through features such as step-less entry and provision for hand-rails in bathrooms.
The building has ground floor space to park and charge mobility scooters and a generous communal space on the second floor and gardening are on the ground floor to allow opportunities for tenants to socialise.
Tenants have already begun moving in. The location within the inner city ring and near services means that senior tenants live in the heart of the community, reducing social isolation.
An office on the ground floor allows housing officers and other services to come into the building and provide activities or services on site.
The building is one of three Authority developments designed for senior tenants providing 59 apartments for senior tenants in total. A 10 apartment building in Blair Athol is already operational and fully tenanted, and a 29 apartment building will be completed next year.
