22/01/2021

With much of SA set to experience very hot temperatures, a statewide Code Red response has been activated from tonight until next week (concluding 25 January in Adelaide, 27 January in regional SA) to assist people experiencing homelessness.

We're busy working in partnership with our homelessness service providers to ensure additional support is available to keep the most vulnerable in our community cool, hydrated and out of the heat

In Adelaide, the following additional services are available:

  • Westcare (Baptist Care SA), 11/19 Millers Ct Adelaide will be open 10am to 5pm Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January 2021.
  • Hutt St Centre will extend their operating hours until 5pm tonight, Friday 22 January 2021.
  • Street to Home will increase staffing levels and be engaging with people rough sleeping through street work throughout this period
  • Trace-A-Place (SYC), 135 Currie St Adelaide will be extending hours until 7pm tonight, Friday 22 January 2021.

In regional areas, if you are experiencing or at risk of homelessness, please call Homeless Connect SA on 1800 003 308.

No matter where you are in South Australia, Homeless Connect SA is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year round - to connect people in crisis to advice, services and emergency accommodation.

Please take care yourself and check in family members and friends, particularly those who may be more vulnerable during periods of hot weather.

Thank you for sharing this message and to our homelessness service providers for supporting those who need our help during this severe heat.
