Build Skills Employment Pathways Program - Apprentice holding a nail gun

The 250 Apprenticeships Pilot Program supports SA Housing Authority's commitment to provide our customers with opportunities to train for and secure meaningful employment.

As part of Our Housing Future 2020-2030, SA Housing Authority is delivering up to 1,000 employment and training outcomes for social housing tenants and people on the housing register.

The 250 Apprenticeships Pilot Program works with South Australian Group Training Organisations (GTOs) to address areas with identified skills shortages across the building and construction sectors:

Each of the five GTOs involved have employed apprentices and placed them with host employers (builders and contractors), where they are undertaking their on-the-job training and gaining practical experience. The GTOs also provide additional services related to the program including recruitment, pastoral care and support, personal protective equipment and pre-employment training. Ordinarily these services would come at an increased cost to the host employer. By hosting an apprentice through the 250 Apprenticeships Pilot Program, host employers can access the GTO's services, while SA Housing Authority subsidies their activities. This significantly reduces the hourly rates for host employers.

More information about each of the Group Training Organisations is available on their websites.

Apprentices have been employed across ten different trades:

  • bricklaying
  • cabinetmaking
  • carpentry
  • concreting
  • electrical
  • wall and floor tiling
  • plastering
  • painting
  • plumbing
  • roof plumbing
