Working towards improving housing security for older women in South Australia.

Older women are one of the fastest growing populations experiencing homelessness in Australia, and South Australia. To curb this trend the State Government established the Housing Security for Older Women Taskforce.

Guided by lived experience and co-design with government and non-government representatives, the Taskforce drew on a range of methods to identify preventative and responsive approaches to address older women's housing security.

On 7 September 2023, the Taskforce provided the Minister for Human Services with a recommendation report for improving the housing security of older women in South Australia.

The recommendations included in the report, highlight that housing insecurity for older South Australian women needs, initiatives responses and actions from government, non-government and the broader South Australian community.

Following in principle Government support on release of the recommendation report in December 2023, significant progress has been made on addressing the Taskforce's recommendations. The Improving Housing Security for Older Women Update (PDF, 1.5 MB) details actions being undertaken by government and sector partners, recognising that addressing housing security requires a cross-sectoral approach. It outlines areas of current and future initiatives to improve housing security for older South Australia women.
