The Employment Pathways Apprenticeship Program supports SA Housing Authority's commitment to provide our customers with opportunities to train for and secure meaningful employment.
As part of Our Housing Future 2020-2030, SA Housing Authority is delivering up to1,000 employment and training outcomes for social housing tenants and people on the housing register.
The Employment Pathways Apprenticeship Program works with South Australian Group Training Organisations (GTOs) to address areas with identified skills shortages across the building and construction sectors:
- Career Employment Group – all trades
- Housing Industry Association - bricklaying, carpentry, painting and plastering
- Master Builders South Australia – bricklaying and carpentry
- Murraylands Training and Employment SA – all trades
- Statewide Group Training SA – all trades
Each of the five GTOs involved will employ apprentices and place them with host employers (builders and contractors), where they will undertake their on-the-job training and experience. The GTOs will also provide additional services related to the program including recruitment, pastoral care and support, personal protective equipment and pre-employment training. Ordinarily these services would come at an increased cost. By hosting an apprentice through the Employment Pathways Apprenticeship Program, host employers can access the GTO's services, while SA Housing Authority subsidies their activities. This significantly reduces the hourly rates for host employers.
Apprenticeships are available for a wide range of people aged 16 years and older, including:
- Social and Community Housing Tenants and people waiting for housing
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
Apprenticeships are available in six different trades:
- wall and floor tiling
