Take a look inside at our people

Metropolitan and Country offices

People needing public, community, or Aboriginal housing support can register with the Authority at one of our offices. We employ social workers, tenancy practitioners, housing officers, and a range of other corporate and administrative roles across these offices.

With around 85% of available public housing allocated to applicants considered to be Category 1 customers, our people work across the city and in rural areas, carrying out a huge breadth of work.  Offices are based in multiple Metropolitan Adelaide locations and in Berri, Ceduna, Coober Pedy, Mount Gambier, Murray Bridge, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln, Port Pirie, Umuwa and Whyalla.

Teams are the first point of contact for customers and provide advice on private rental as well as social housing options. They might assess a client’s needs, review housing allocations and/or provide a tenancy service, handing over keys and undertaking property reviews.

Relief and Recovery

... is required to open and manage emergency relief centres, recovery centres and provide outreach services, when activated by the State Emergency Centre. The ERFSG is supported in this by various government, non-government, and volunteers’ agencies, such as Red Cross, Disaster and Recovery Ministries and Lions.

South Australian Housing Authority sets up Relief Centres when there is a risk to people's lives and property due to an emergency event, located in places that are easily and safely accessible to impacted community members.

The relief phase of a disaster transitions into the recovery phase when communities are no longer worried about survival and can begin to rebuild their lives. The Emergency Relief Functional Support Group is responsible for establishing and managing Recovery Centres to allow people to access psychosocial support, receive grant assistance, gather information, and seek referral into the wide range of recovery services. Recovery centres are opened when there is a need in the community for longer term support and may be operational for up to 12 months, with support response transitioning to the community as recovery progresses.

Capital Projects

... and creating new, connected, well-serviced, appropriate and sustainable mixed-use communities.

The master-planned projects are large-scale residential developments that create diverse, sustainable, and inclusive communities for people of all income levels, backgrounds, and abilities, including by expanding the availability of Government-owned public housing. They incorporate sustainable design principles and features and promote social inclusion and community cohesion.

These projects stimulate private sector investment and provide an opportunity to address infrastructure issues on a neighbourhood scale, including stormwater and traffic management, electricity and water supply, street lighting, and public realm upgrades.
Our projects are located near the Adelaide CBD and offer a variety of amenities and housing options. They are helping to revitalize suburbs by improving the quality of housing, open spaces, streetscapes, and infrastructure.

Specialist Aboriginal Programs consolidates a broad range of programs and activities to support the specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander (ATSI) customers, in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner. The teams provide cultural and operational leadership of numerous targeted programs across metropolitan, regional and remote settings.  The Wali Wiru program focuses on achieving outcomes for Anangu tenancies in metropolitan Adelaide and Port Augusta, whilst the Transitional Accommodation Centres in Ceduna and Port Augusta provide valuable services to support community mobility.
