Life as a Relief & Recovery Manager

Read her story

Interviewer:  How are you encouraged to bring your whole self to work?

Sarah: "I am encouraged to bring my whole self to work through a sense of purpose, whether I am assisting a team of Housing Officers navigate the daily duties of our service provision, walking with a customer through a challenging experience or providing frontline Emergency Relief or Recovery post disaster.

I know that the work I do will have a lasting impact on our community. Knowing that I can represent the Public Sector through SA Housing Authority (SAHA) in the most professional manner whilst providing an understanding, wholesome and real interaction with a customer sometimes in their darkest of days encourages me to show up as the best version of myself."

Interviewer:  What are the benefits of your work — what motivates you?

Sarah: "I am motivated by the constant variability in what I do, the fact that no two days are ever the same in SAHA and that I am readily encouraged to engage in opportunity as and when they arrive. I have benefited from strong mentorship, leadership and encouragement to thrive in my roles, take on new projects and participate in the change process.

I am constantly learning and growing in this organisation and have benefited from the vast range of experience it provides.

Further to this, the opportunity to assist the community in times of disaster such as a bushfire or a flood through Emergency Relief and Recovery allows you to feel like you can really make a difference to a community that is carrying significant distress. Knowing you can put your hand up to be one of the first people someone in the community may talk to during such a stressful time really makes you feel like you can come to work and make a difference."
