A new long-term plan to improve housing outcomes for Aboriginal people

A new 10-year Aboriginal Housing Strategy is being developed to improve housing outcomes for all Aboriginal South Australians. It will align with the Our Housing Future 2020-2030 strategy to enable a more tailored approach specific to Aboriginal housing needs.

The strategy will consider the full housing continuum, from crisis services and social housing through to affordable housing options and home ownership. It will also build on the feedback and ideas provided through the development of Our Housing Future 2020-2030.

The State Government is committed to engaging with South Australian Aboriginal communities and partner organisations to develop the strategy, to ensure it captures the voices of Aboriginal people.

PricewaterhouseCoopers Indigenous Consulting is leading the engagement process and is asking Aboriginal people that live in South Australia to complete a survey (and share with their community) so that their voice is heard and helps inform the strategy. The opportunity to complete the questionnaire will be available until 30 September 2020.

The strategy will be guided by the Aboriginal Advisory Committee, which was formed to guide the South Australian Housing Trust on Aboriginal housing matters.

The strategy will be finalised and released publicly by April 2021.
