Renovation program powers on

Bathroom updgrade Shower and Basin, Left Before, Right AfterWe are powering on with renovating 350 untenanted public housing homes to make them liveable once again.

Since the $177.5 million Public Housing Improvement Program (PHIP) launched last year, we've upgraded the first 45 properties in a number of areas across South Australia, including a three-bedroom home at Port Adelaide.

Works on houses included in the PHIP 350 program include the replacement of kitchens and/or bathrooms and a range of other major repairs and updates.

Another 35 houses are planned to have renovations completed by the end of this financial year, and the remaining 270 homes will be identified and completed by June 2026.

Taskforce webpages now live

You can now follow the great work of our new Housing Security for Older Women taskforce on our website.

Older women are increasingly experiencing homelessness in Australia, and are particularly vulnerable to housing insecurity due to a range of current and historical factors.

The taskforce - comprised of representatives from key sectors - will identify opportunities, engage key partners in developing a cross-sector strategy and deliver an implementation plan for improving housing security for older women.

The taskforce includes older women who have experienced housing stress, Aboriginal women and women from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Kicking goals for a good cause

Homelessness SA staff at Wita Wirra (Park 18) hosting a five-a-side and bubble soccer tournamentStaff from our Adelaide office recently laced up their soccer boots for a great cause.

Homelessness SA held a five-a-side and bubble soccer tournament at Wita Wirra (Park 18) on Hutt Road to raise awareness of Youth Homelessness Matters Day on 19 April.

We entered a team which tried really hard, but couldn't quite live up to the talents of Adelaide United legend Bruce Djite, who was in attendance.

While this was brilliant and fun event, we are very serious about our role in supporting the State's homelessness sector.

We partner with not-for-profits, community housing providers and other non-government organisations to help service the complex and evolving needs of clients experiencing - or at risk of - homelessness across South Australia.
