Homelessness Alliances contracts extended

We are investing $115 million to help South Australians experiencing homelessness, awarding five Homelessness Alliances with renewed contracts for two years.

The Alliances - Toward Home, Adelaide North-West Homelessness Alliance , Country North Alliance, Country South Alliance and the State-wide Domestic Violence Alliance - have received confirmation from the SA Housing Authority their contracts, which finish in June 30, will be renewed until 2025.

The five Alliances, originally contracted in 2021 as part of reforms to the State's homelessness system, provide homelessness and Domestic and Family Violence (DFV) services across the state.

Unfortunately, DFV remains a major cause of homelessness in South Australia.

Since their inception on 1 July 2021, the South Australian Homelessness Alliances have delivered services to approximately 28,800 people who were experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness.

Public housing new builds mapped

public housing new buildWe have mapped where we will build – or are building - 404 new public housing homes across the state… and more are on the way!

This includes 267 under the government’s Public Housing Improvement Program (PHIP) and 137 being built through our ongoing building programs.

The first of these houses (pictured) was revealed at the beginning of the month.

The remaining 170 PHIP homes – bringing the total to 437 homes – will be identified and constructed between now and mid-2026.

We have also stopped the sale of 580 public housing properties, meaning a total of 1144 additional public housing homes will be made available over the next four years.

Our horticultural contractor UrbanVirons Group has laid new lawns, redefined garden beds and tidied some of the existing trees and vegetation.

A community garden has also been created for tenant use, including raised garden beds, fruit trees and seating.

We've also performed a range of other improvements to some of our other similar sites.

We are replacing ageing three-bedroom houses in the Pipalyatjara and Kalka communities with new four-bedroom homes to provide better facilities and better accommodate larger families.

Five new houses are being built at Pipalyatjara, while a further three are under construction Kalka.

These houses are being constructed under the Remote Indigenous Housing Program, jointly funded by the State and Australian Government.

Virtual power plant program extended

We are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with Tesla with the launch of a new phase of the South Australian Virtual Power Plant (SA VPP), providing low-cost renewable electricity to another 3000 SA Housing Authority houses.

The $33 million expansion, funded entirely by Tesla, will connect thousands of low-income households to a network of solar and Tesla Powerwall home battery systems across South Australia.

The SA VPP provides SA Housing Authority tenants, like Craig and Yvonne (above), and Community Housing tenants with the cheapest electricity in the state, currently 23% below the Default Market Offer.

Under the project, 4100 SA Housing Authority households are already connected to the system, including through the installation of solar and home batteries. The next phase will bring the number up to over 7000.
